Founders of North Sky Yurts with Van

About us

We are Becca (above right) & Charlotte (above left) - founders of North Sky Yurts. We are two friends with a mission: to provide magical spaces for events that don't cost the earth.

We love events, the planet and of course yurts; which is why North Sky Yurts was born!

We both live in Leeds and wanted a business that would take us all over Yorkshire. We'd been dreaming of creating, building and owning our own business so in October 2020, after 8 years in the corporate world, we took the plunge and registered North Sky Yurts.

After lots of research, we sourced our yurts in Yorkshire and created a bespoke design to make them as light and spacious as possible.

On top of that we also acquired a bell tent hire business providing mobile glamping, which has always been a dream. We are now the proud owners of 50 bell tents and have set up bell tent villages for  weddings and parties all over Yorkshire.

We love getting to spend our summer outdoors, working hard and visiting lots of amazing venues. There's nothing better than meeting our customers and making them smile by providing their perfect event set up.

We work perfectly together, bringing two different but complimentary skill sets to the business. You'll often find Charlotte chatting to our customers making sure we're all set for their event and Becca dreaming up new ideas.

We share more about our journey on our Instagram and our blog

' 2020 was a year of change; it gave rise to more focus and interest in sustainability and how important communities are - from immediate family to neighbours and even national society. 2021 is hoped to be the year where all postponed weddings, cancelled festivals, rearranged corporate events and all those missed celebrations can finally take place.

Becca McClure, co-founder of North Sky Yurts in Yorkshire, says: 'With traditional event venues fully booked with rearranged bookings, there is a need for event spaces that are flexible. Yurts are a blank canvas that can be used in a multitude of different ways and styled to suit the event taking place.

With the growing demand for businesses to focus on sustainability, we made sure our yurts were made locally in Yorkshire, we have multi-use flooring (avoiding single use like a lot of other providers use) and our business cards are even made out of recycled t-shirts! To help counter the emissions from events, we also plant a tree for every booking for our customer'.

Meet the founders

Hello! We are Becca & Charlotte, the founders of North Sky Yurts. We're so glad you've found us.

We started North Sky Yurts in October 2020 knowing we wanted to do something creative, spend more time outdoors and contribute to a better world. Inspired by an eye-opening trip living with a nomadic family in Mongolia and spread our wings to fly from the corporate world, we both left our roles and leapt into entrepreneurship, providing unique, mobile venues for a range of events. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride! (The kind that you queue for again and again!)

Since then, we have created truly one of a kind experiences that are not only completely bespoke, but also utterly magic. Handmade in Yorkshire, our spectacular yurts have been designed to let as much light in as possible and are a dream in cream canvas. Light, spacious and begging to be dressed in your style, a yurt is a venue you can truly make your own. An intimate and unforgettable space to laugh, cry, drink, dance and party the night away. We live for the buzz of a yurt styled to perfection, filled with love, the sound of clinking glasses and belly laughs. Gazing up at the night sky through the crown of the yurt after a perfect day is pretty special too!

Large Bell Tent Village in Sunny Field

In early 2021, we made a big (but exciting) decision to buy a bell tent hire business based in East Yorkshire to accompany our yurts. We've learnt so much and get such a thrill from setting up glamping villages for weddings and parties. Bell tents are such a great option for creating extra accommodation for your guests without the hassle of arranging late night taxi's plus you get to see them all the next morning for a catch-up over a BBQ breakfast! Our favourite part of the bell tent business is our honeymoon tent - inspired by Becca's very own wedding night spent in a luxury bell tent - ours comes with a real bed, beautiful decor, a bistro table and a snack box for the newlyweds!

In 2022 and 2023 we set-up our pop-up site Birds & Bells for groups wanting a festival style weekend complete with yurt, bell tents and a field to frolic in! It was a huge success and dates are now live for Summer 2024!

We were named winners of the Consumer Services Start-Up at the National Start-Up Awards 2022 which was amazing and Becca was named one of Insider Media's '42 Under 42' which was a huge achievement which she couldn't have done without Charlotte! Alongside this we're honoured to be the Entrepreneurs In Residence at the Business and IP Centre at Leeds Library which provides support for businesses across Leeds.

We had a passion to do something we loved that also contributed to doing some good. Our business reflects our environmentally conscious core values. Our yurts are handcrafted in Yorkshire, we have multi-use flooring and even our business cards are made from recycled t-shirts. We buy high-quality equipment so that it lasts longer and we recycle, reclaim and reuse as much as we can.

We have pledged to plant a tree for every yurt or bell tent booking made and since launching we have planted over 30 trees which has offset 9 tonnes of CO2! That's the same as a return flight from Leeds, UK to Sydney, Australia!

We also love to work with our clients to provide tips and advice on hosting a more sustainable event. Find out more about our sustainability values here.

We can't wait to hear from you.
